Mission Year is a dynamic movement of believers, from all denominations and cultural backgrounds, dedicated to building the Kingdom of God through sacrificial service. Every day our Team Members put their faith into action in communities of need across the nation, providing a powerful combination of social action and Christian love. They tutor, build, nurture, repair, encourage, assist, organize, teach, learn from, listen to, and pray with all kinds of people, all in the name of Jesus.
The Mission Year Podcast is designed to be a resource for people considering to do our program, as well as getting people excited about the things we are passionate about. The podcast will talk about recent happenings in our cities (Atlanta, Camden, Chicago, New Orleans, Philadelphia, and Wilmington), what events Mission Year repersentatives will be at, and featured talks and interviews with friends and staff of Mission Year.

The prayer at the close of the day, known as Compline, is the last in a continuous cycle of daily prayers and worship known as the Divine Office of the church. The chanted service of prayers as sung by The Minnesota Compline Choir continues the traditions that have been kept by monastic communities around the world for over a thousand years.
The choir is comprised of 18 male voices, selected by audition from a wide variety of congregations and denominations. They meet weekly to prepare for each service, and on other occasions for performances at special holiday services.
In worship, the choir performs all of the liturgy, hymns, anthems, and psalms. The Choir is on summer break and will resume services in Fall 2011.

The people of Calvary Episcopal Church have been making God’s love visible in downtown Memphis since 1832. We believe that God’s love was made visible in our world through the life Jesus lived and the things Jesus taught. The welcoming nature of Calvary’s community is fostered by the parishioners’ expectation to meet Christ in all persons. Since the 1920s, Calvary has offered the Lenten Preaching Series each weekday during Lent in conjunction with the infamous Waffle Shop. Speakers representing various denominations and faith backgrounds offer inspiring presentations to nurture spiritual renewal and growth, and a deeper relationship with God. Please enjoy these sermons and journey with the Calvary community in FAITH: Forgiveness, Action, Inquiry, Togetherness, and Hallelujah! You are always welcome at the corner of Second and Adams in downtown Memphis. To learn more, visit www.calvarymemphis.org.

The 24-7 Prayer movement is a global, non-stop prayer meeting that began in 1999 amongst the young people of Revelation church in Chichester, England. It has spread into more than ninety nations and most Christian denominations, giving birth to mission and justice initiatives around the globe. Thanks to an innovative approach to spirituality and culture, 24-7 Prayer has captured the attention of newspapers and magazines from Rolling Stone to Readers Digest and was the subject of a British television documentary.
The 24-7 Shorts are a labor of love by an incredible team of filmmakers, designers, web developers, writers and more. As the movement of 24-7 Prayer continues to grow virally and expand at a rate impossible to track these short documentaries focus in on specific communities and situations. Using these particular testimonies of prayer, mission, community, creativity and vision the 24-7 Shorts paint a picture of the diversity and depth of what God is doing through the 24-7 Prayer movement.

Letter Concerning Toleration by John Locke was originally published in 1689. Its initial publication was in Latin, though it was immediately translated into other languages. In this "letter" addressed to an anonymous "Honored Sir" (actually Locke's close friend Philip von Limborch, who published it without Locke's knowledge) Locke argues for a new understanding of the relationship between religion and government. One of the founders of Empiricism, Locke develops a philosophy that is contrary to the one expressed by Thomas Hobbes in Leviathan, primarily because it supports toleration for various Christian denominations. Locke's work appeared amidst a fear that Catholicism might be taking over England, and responds to the problem of religion and government by proposing toleration as the answer. Unlike Hobbes, who saw uniformity of religion as the key to a well-functioning civil society, Locke argues that more religious groups actually prevent civil unrest. Locke argues that civil unrest results from confrontations caused by any magistrate's attempt to prevent different religions from being practiced, rather than tolerating their proliferation. Locke's primary goal is to "distinguish exactly the business of civil government from that of religion." He makes use of extensive argument from analogy to accomplish his goal, and relies on several key points. The thing that he wants to persuade the reader of is that government is instituted to promote external interests, relating to life, liberty, and the general welfare, while the church exists to promote internal interests, i.e., salvation. The two serve separate functions, and so, must be considered to be separate institutions. (Summary from Wikipedia)

Charles Spurgeon was a British Particular Baptist preacher who remains highly influential among Christians of different denominations, among whom he is still known as the "Prince of Preachers". In his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to around 10,000,000 people, often up to 10 times each week at different places. He was the pastor of the congregation of the New Park Street Chapel (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle) in London for 38 years.
Spurgeon was a prolific author of many types of works. Here LibriVox volunteers bring you the first volume of Spurgeon’s commentary on the Psalms, covering Psalms 1 to 26. (Summary modified from Wikipedia by MaryAnn)
