Neil Gaiman's urban fantasy is set under the streets of London; a strange world inhabited by monsters and saints, knights in armour, and pale girls in black velvet. 'Neverwhere' is a dark and thrilling mixture of metaphor, history, humor, and adventure.
Neverwhere
Neil Gaiman (author of 'American Gods,' 'Coraline,' 'Stardust,' and many more) discusses how he became one of the world's most popular fantasy writers.
Neil Gaiman: Dream Dangerously
The struggles of the Church of Art, Inc. to make some kind of spiritual connection we don't yet understand.
The spirit world arranges all meetings and mismeetings: you are invited to respond at The_Church_of_Art@comcast.net.
Influences: Jack Kerouac, Henry Miller, the Wachowski Brothers, M. Night Shyamalan, Tori Amos, Neil Gaiman, Miles Davis, Kenneth Patchen, -- if you know what they have in common, you know what we're getting at.
Adventures of the Mind
Mercury Falls is a humorous novel in the vein of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, centering on the adventures of a rogue angel (Mercury) at the brink of the apocalypse. Imagine a ping-pong match pitting Douglas Adams and Neil Gaiman against C.S. Lewis and G.K. Chesterton. And when you get bored with that, imagine a really funny, well-written book.

"Assam & Darjeeling" is the story of two children who set out to rescue their dead mother from the Underworld -- a nightmare place where the mythological desperately tries to keep pace with the world above. The children encounter cell-phone carrying demons, forgotten deities from defunct pantheons waiting tables, and one nasty character called Juniper who takes a particular, personal interest in their quest. A terrific story full of references to mythology, folklore, Dante's 'Inferno', and classic fairy tales, "Assam & Darjeeling" follows in the tradition of writers like Ray Bradbury, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, and Philip Pullman.
"Assam & Darjeeling"
I once asked Neil Gaiman--a writer of some repute--what was one thing that I should know as a writer. The one thing that should not be forgotten. The one rule above all else.
"Talk in your own voice," he said.
It's something I've taken to heart. And it gives me a pervy kind of joy to be able to that litterally, now, 10 years later. I am talking in my voice, reading things written in my own voice.
That's what this podcast will be: Jared Axelrod stories, essays, and spoken-word performance art, read by the author.
