We are a community of followers of Jesus Christ, committed to live by faith, to be known by love, and to be a voice of hope. Our name comes from the diversity of our members and from the symbolism of a broken, fragmented humanity becoming a work of beauty under the artful hands of God. We welcome people from all walks of life, regardless of where they are in their spiritual journey. We gather in Whittier, one of several campuses, and invite you to discover how all the pieces can fit together!

American poet Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass, is a collection of poems notable for its frank delight in and praise of the senses, during a time when such candid displays were considered immoral. Where much previous poetry, especially English, relied on symbolism, allegory, and meditation on the religious and spiritual, Leaves of Grass exalted the body and the material world.
Whitman was inspired to begin Leaves of Grass after reading an essay by Ralph Waldo Emerson which expressed a need for a uniquely American poet. When the book was first published, Whitman sent a copy to Emerson, whose praiseful letter of response helped launch the book to success. Whitman’s hero, Abraham Lincoln, read and enjoyed an early version of Leaves of Grass. Despite such high recommendations, Whitman faced charges of obscenity and immorality for his work, but this only led to increased popularity of the book.
Whitman continually revised and republished Leaves of Grass throughout his lifetime, notably adding the “Drum-Taps” section after Lincoln’s assassination. The book grew from 12 poems in its first publication, which Whitman paid for and typeset himself, to nearly 400 poems in its final, “Death Bed Edition.” This recording is of the final edition.

The Labyrinth
The labyrinth is an ancient symbol of wholeness, thousands of years old, that bridges all cultures and spiritual sects. At its most basic level the labyrinth is a metaphor for the journey to the center of your deepest self and back out into the world with a broadened understanding of who you are. We are all on the path... exactly where we need to be. The labyrinth is a model of that path.
Walking the labyrinth is symbolic of walking the spiritual path; our personal journey of illumination. There is no right way to walk the labyrinth. It is individual to each person and should be treated as an individual journey.
Walk The Labyrinth
Standing at the entrance in quiet reflection is a good starting point. Some like to set an intention for their walk, but there is no wrong or right way to approach the labyrinth walk.
As you walk the labyrinth, you can use hand positions, or mudras, to make the symbolism even more meaningful. As you enter the labyrinth and walk toward the centre, hold your hands in a "palms down" position, making the intention to release all that no longer serves you. When you reach the centre, pause and hold your hands "palms up" in a gesture of receptivity to the insights you are receiving.
As you walk out of the labyrinth, keep your palms up in order to receive strength and guidance on your journey, and for help in making your insights manifest in the world. As you leave the labyrinth, turn to face the centre and bring your" palms together", giving gratitude for the gift of spirit in your life.
After walking the labyrinth, reflect back on your experience.
