The Association for Enterprise Opportunity (AEO) is seeking to get the message out that microfinance and microenterprise not only work internationally, but also domestically, right here in the U.S.--a point you can hear more about in the podcast of Dr. Muhammad Yunus, 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner, speaking at AEO's 2007 Annual Conference. We hope our podcast will help to educate and inform the broader public about how this movement in the U.S. has grown over the last 20 years into a crucial tool for poverty alleviation AND economic development in America. The United States has deep entrepreneurial roots, and the movement is of the opinion that this proven strategy for dignity and economic security should be made available to all. AEO has over 450 nonprofit members who daily work with underserved, low and moderate-income individuals to start or build their businesses; this involves offering microloans and business training, as well as other forms of assistance. More on the various components of microenterprise in the U.S. can be found on our website, www.microenterpriseworks.org, and on that of FIELD, a program of the Aspen Institute that has done wonderful work over the years in the area of microenterprise in the U.S. (www.fieldus.org). The podcast will also serve to distribute relevant audio messages to the AEO membership.

Welcome to The Frick Collection. Here you can listen to a discussion of works of art on view at The Frick Collection.
The Frick Collection was founded by Henry Clay Frick (1849-1919), the Pittsburgh coke and steel industrialist. At his death, Mr. Frick bequeathed his New York residence and the most outstanding of his many artworks to establish a public gallery for the purpose of “encouraging and developing the study of the fine arts.” The art of The Frick Collection includes superb examples of Old Master paintings, sculpture and decorative arts.

This exhibition presents contemporary Indian photography and video art of the last quarter century, ranging from straightforward photojournalism to highly contrived personal expressions. The twenty-eight artists included in this exhibition provide rich insights into the dynamics shaping the contemporary Indian psyche and social sphere, including deeply rooted cultural practices, dramatic economic and political shifts and the pervasive influence of the media. As they use their cameras to observe, analyze, interpret and subvert, these artists traverse many realms of experience, from the inescapable shared spectacle of the worlds of politics and Bollywood to the enigmatic territory of the artists imagination. They investigate identity as a social construct, engage issues of gender and sexuality, and explore the effects of population migrations. As a result, the lens moves from the street to the home and from the body politic to the body of the artist.

Miha Štrukelj

Interference in Process
At the Venice Biennale Slovenia will be represented by a project from Miha Štrukelj, conceived as
a total artwork and based on four thematic levels and media: painting, wall drawing, drawing
and Lego picture. The exhibition deconstructs the picture plane with the aid of the grid as a
structural and conceptual basis, where the painting is deconstructed and reconstituted through
the disillusioned gaze of the subject. The themes of Štrukelj's artistic practice arise from a
fascination with media-manipulated images and expand into the iconography of anonymous
urban topography, and the isolated, quiet presence of the human figure. This approach is
reflected in all the work, with the exception of the Lego-picture which portrays natural
landscapes, a rare motif in Štrukelj's work.
